Previous update:
Stewart Childress, grandson of Bob Childress, began restoration of the
Buffalo Mountain Mission School in February of 1996. His intent was to
open it to the public by establishing a Bed and Breakfast. While progress
has been made, it has become apparent that a project of this magnitude
requires more man-hours and financial resources than one man can devote.
Inspired while attending a Wee Kirk Conference at Montreat in October
of 2000, Stewart came away feeling that God was calling him to spearhead
a renewed effort to turn the schoolhouse into a Presbyterian retreat.
Hence the Conference Center was formed and Stewart immediately began to
file for approval with the Commonwealth of Virginia. The BMCC is a
501(c)(3) organization and all contributions are tax-deductible under
Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code
